Let\u2019s make a start. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Pros of Zoosk<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Cons of Zoosk <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The sign-up process at the Zoosk app is a breeze, and registration shouldn\u2019t take you longer than ten minutes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Zoosk asks you for the usual information, such as your birthday, your gender (and gender preference), as well as your email address. <\/p>\n\n\n\n However, you need to validate your Zoosk account. This can be done by sending them your mobile number. The site is nearly organized, with all your important tabs nearly arranged in a column to the left of the screen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Here, you can search for other active members, check your messages, and use the SmartPick feature all with just one click of a button. You can also see who\u2019s online now. <\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s really simple stuff that will suit most users who want a clean, user-friendly dating site that doesn\u2019t come with loads of bells and whistles that make things complicated. It\u2019s designed for quick engagement, and there are zero distractions. If you want to pop onto Zoosk to quickly check your messages, it\u2019s really easy to do just that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n On the other hand, Zoosk hasn\u2019t changed all that much over the years (even after the revamp), and it still looks more basic and even a tad more dated than many other dating sites. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Moreover, Zoosk comes with banner ads that can<\/em> get a bit annoying. And when you combine those ads with the basic, dated design, it\u2019s easy to see why some users accuse Zoosk of being a bit \u201cspammy.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n All in all, though, those are really the only disadvantages, and Zoosk otherwise gets a major thumbs-up on the design front.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I get a lot of messages from people asking me if the profiles on online dating services are real or fake. <\/p>\n\n\n\n So, are there fake profiles on Zoosk? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In a word – Yes. But not as many as there used to be. <\/p>\n\n\n\n See, before the revamp, Zoosk was well-known for being the dating app where \u201cdating profiles go to die.\u201d It was FULL of bots, scammers, and inactive profiles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n However, since Zoosk was taken over and the site was fully revamped (and turned into a premium dating site), there are now fewer bot profiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The BIGGEST problem with Zoosk is that there are still dead profiles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n What is a dead profile? <\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s a profile that was created years ago (more than 10 years ago in some cases), but which is still searchable on the site. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The GOOD news is that it\u2019s easy to spot a dead profile so that you don\u2019t waste your time sending them a message or a virtual gift. Here\u2019s what you need to do: <\/p>\n\n\n\n Search for members within – say – 20 miles of your location. Some users will show up with the tag \u2018Currently Online\u2019 while others will show up with the tag \u2018Recently Online.\u2019 If a user has neither of these tags, it means they\u2019re a dead user.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you\u2019re still not sure whether a user is active or inactive, you can take a look at their photos. These will be time stamped, and if the time-stamped is clearly old (5+ years ago), they\u2019re surely a dead profile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Don\u2019t get me wrong, it\u2019s annoying that we have to do all this to make sure a profile is active, and I wish Zoosk would clear the dead profiles away. <\/p>\n\n\n\n When it comes to fake profiles, there\u2019s a way to spot these, too. Because Zoosk asks everyone to validate their profiles, you can see how each member validated theirs by clicking on their profile (as a free member, you can view full profiles) and taking a look at the bottom left of their profile picture. If you see a green check mark like the one in the photo below, it means they\u2019ve verified their profile through photo verification process:<\/p>\n\n\n\n This doesn\u2019t mean shady profiles don\u2019t exist, but you can at least be sure whether a profile is real or not. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Another way you can personally validate a profile is by taking a look to see if the user has added links to their social media accounts. That said, this is by no means a guarantee that a profile isn\u2019t fake because – let\u2019s face it – anyone<\/em> can create a Facebook account from scratch, before using it to create a fake Zoosk profile and then sending you a link to another website. <\/p>\n\n\n\n However, what raises a few suspicions is the sheer amount of messages, visits, and \u201clikes\u201d you get when you first sign up. Zoosk emails you each time someone sends you a message or likes you (sometimes they\u2019ll even send you an email when somebody visits your profile). And when you first create your account, you may notice that your inbox is FLOODED with these types of notifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Once you click the email and try to see who has sent you a message or liked you, you\u2019ll be taken to this page: <\/p>\n\n\n\n In other words, there are question marks over whether the profiles are real – or whether they\u2019re bots used by Zoosk to encourage you to upgrade your account, or at least purchase Zoosk coins just to see who\u2019s sent you a message. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Again, the green check mark verification is useful and you should definitely use it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Other than that, the profile quality at Zoosk is hit and miss. Some are detailed, others aren\u2019t. I guess it all comes down to how serious an individual is taking this, as well as what they\u2019re looking for. <\/p>\n\n\n\n For example, those who are looking for something longer-term tend to fill out their profiles with listed interests and in-depth bios. Those who are looking for casual dating, or who are using out of boredom and haven\u2019t subscribed yet, tend to either leave their profiles blank, or they\u2019ll add one or two lines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Note – you get a lot<\/em> of these profiles on Zoosk. And because they\u2019re free members, they won\u2019t be able to reply to your messages. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Zoosk is more than just a site where you search for users and shoot them a message. It comes with several features that are only accessible when you\u2019ve upgraded your account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But how useful are these features? Let\u2019s find out:<\/p>\n\n\n\n SmartPick is – for many – what makes Zoosk \u201cZoosk.\u201d It\u2019s their very own, highly unique behavioral matchmaking service that pairs you up with other users it thinks are compatible with you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s different from any other matchmaking dating service I\u2019ve come across because, unlike most dating site algorithm\u2019s that display matches based on the answers you\u2019ve given to a personality test, SmartPick goes off your on-site behavior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What does this mean? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n From the moment you sign up to Zoosk, SmartPick (which is driven by Artificial Intelligence) monitors your behavior. Everything that you do on the site – who you message, who you don\u2019t message, how you tweak your search filters – is fed into its algorithm. Over time, it learns your preferences and is then able to suggest perfect matches. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Does it work? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n No matchmaking service is ever perfect. But judging from my own results, I\u2019d say SmartPick is fairly <\/em>accurate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Carousel is basically Zoosk\u2019s version of Tinder. <\/p>\n\n\n\n It works like this: <\/p>\n\n\n\n Profiles are queued up for you according to your location (and other search preferences, such as age range). It\u2019s then up to you to decide whether or not to say \u201cyes\u201d or \u201cno\u201d to them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Unlike Tinder, you also have the option of saying \u201cMaybe.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n Occasionally, Zoosk asks if you said \u201cNo\u201d by accident. This can actually get a tad frustrating, although it\u2019s a nice idea. But it\u2019s purely designed to get you to upgrade your account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Whenever you say \u201cYes\u201d to someone who also says \u201cYes\u201d to you, the two of you are a match, and you can start chatting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s a cool feature for when you\u2019re in a rush and just want to flick through profiles. However, because you can\u2019t actually click on a profile to see more, you\u2019re essentially basing your decision based on a profile picture alone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In your \u201cConnections\u201d are the people you\u2019ve shown an interest in, either by sending them a smile or a heart. If they respond positively, they\u2019ll be automatically added to your Connections. <\/p>\n\n\n\n What does this mean? <\/p>\n\n\n\n It just means that they\u2019re one of your favorites on the site. It\u2019s a handy feature because it allows you to gather together a few profiles that you might<\/em> decide to message at a later date. Think of it like the Favorites feature that you get on other dating apps. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Dating Insights is a really interesting feature that, like SmartPicks, is wholly exclusive to Zoosk. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Basically, it\u2019s a data center that collects data based on your activity on Zoosk. It learns more about you so that you can learn more about yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What do I mean by this? <\/p>\n\n\n\n Dating Insights shows you the type of people you tend to \u2018swipe\u2019 for and message. It also shows you the types of people who like you<\/em>. Ultimately, it shows you who you\u2019re likely to date and<\/em> who you\u2019re likely to attract. Using this data, you can learn more about yourself and your dating style and – hopefully – improve your dating game. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The Super Send is a premium membership feature that is useful whenever you\u2019re in a hurry or don\u2019t know what to say in an opening message. <\/p>\n\n\n\n It works like this: <\/p>\n\n\n\n Zoosk composes a flirty, automated message for you, which you can send to several people all at the same time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s cute, it\u2019s fun and because it\u2019s based on Zoosk\u2019s data, it tends to work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The only problem with this feature is that some users will recognize that you\u2019ve sent them a generic message, and thus they may not respond. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Also, whilst a Super Send is a great conversation starter, you need to be able to back it up with some original conversation of your own once someone replies to you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n I think Zoosk is one of the better services when it comes to visibility. From my own experience (which I\u2019ll be detailing a little later on), it was fairly easy to get seen on this site. <\/p>\n\n\n\n However, this may not be the case for all members. If you\u2019re struggling to get seen, you can pay a bit extra for a Boost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What does a Zosok Boost do?<\/p>\n\n\n\n A boost \u201cboosts\u201d your profile so that it\u2019s seen by more people over a set period of time. This gives you the chance to expand your connections and possibly find more suitable matches. <\/p>\n\n\n\n One of the biggest concerns that lots of people have when they consider signing up for online dating is whether or not the dating site in question is safe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Ever since the Ashley Madison debacle a few years ago, when millions of people had their data compromised thanks to a website attack, daters have become more security conscious online. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The good news where Zoosk is concerned is that it\u2019s a safe, secure, and legit website. As mentioned previously, it was taken over a few years back, with the new owners launching a revamp. They\u2019ve added a new Privacy Policy<\/a>, which you should definitely read if privacy is something that concerns you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Other than that, Zoosk is like any other dating site when it comes to safety. It might not have a huge amount of premium membership features, but the fact that it\u2019s home to 40,000,000 Zoosk members, as well as a sophisticated behavioral matchmaking service (more on this soon) ensures that it offers plenty of value for money.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n You can also pay for your Zoosk subscription upfront (as opposed to paying monthly), and they often offer discounts in the form of promo codes (keep checking the site for these). <\/p>\n\n\n\n Okay, let\u2019s get to the truly important bit: Does Zoosk actually work? Can you find what you\u2019re looking for here? <\/p>\n\n\n\n To help you make up your own mind about whether or not Zoosk is the right dating site for you, I created an account for myself to see how it rates as a modern online dating site. <\/p>\n\n\n\n As mentioned, creating a profile on Zoosk takes a matter of minutes. There\u2019s no need to fill out any lengthy personality tests or questionnaires because, whilst there is a matchmaking service, it bases its data on your on-site behavior, as opposed to any answers you give it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n With that in mind, I breezed through the sign-up process, added a few pics – and was taken straight to my homepage:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Within minutes, I was getting email notifications telling me that other Zoosk members have viewed me, \u201cliked\u201d me – and even messaged me. <\/p>\n\n\n\n I was going to upgrade my account anyway for this review, but these emails further encouraged me. After all, I wasn\u2019t able to see who<\/em> had viewed me, liked me, or messaged me unless I subscribed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n With that in mind, I paid $35 for a month's worth of Zoosk and started rifling through profiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Like other members before me, I was a bit shocked at the number of not-so-real profiles on Zoosk. This dating site had a really poor reputation a few years ago for fake accounts, bots, and spam. It seems that, despite the recent takeover and revamp, it\u2019s still struggling with these issues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Undeterred, I added some more pics to my profile, as well as a few extra lines about myself and who I was looking for, and left it a few days. I have to say, the Smart Picks that Zoosk picked out for me were most suitable. I sent a few messages to some of them and used the Super Send for the rest of them. By the end of the day, I was talking to 3 women. We were chatting, flirting, and getting to know each other, and by the end of week 2 on Zoosk, I had arranged to meet two of them for drinks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Ultimately, my experience of Zoosk was hit and miss. Like others, I\u2019m still concerned by the number of bots, whilst the basic design definitely doesn\u2019t create a sense of romance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s also REALLY frustrating when you send someone a message but they can\u2019t even view it because they\u2019re not a paid member. <\/p>\n\n\n\n However, engagement on the site is generally good, there are lots of profiles on here to search through, and I\u2019d say it\u2019s definitely possible for anyone to land a date or two. As long as you do the right things and avoid the fakes, Zoosk can be a really profitable dating site.
