Tinder Plus vs Gold vs Platinum: Which One For You?

Looking to upgrade your Tinder account so that you find more matches, land more Tinder dates and generally enjoy more success?

While Tinder is one of the best and most popular free dating apps globally, many free users complain that it's often too difficult to find what they're looking for unless they upgrade their accounts.

The good news is that Tinder has three different upgrades to choose from: Tinder Plus, Tinder Gold, and Tinder Platinum.

Each one has its differences, its unique pros, and its price points.

So which one is the right one for you?

I tested all three of them, and in this guide, I will compare them all and share what I learned.

Comparing Tinder Plus vs Gold

Let's begin by comparing Tinder Plus with Tinder Gold.

Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold are very similar in a few respects. For example, they both net you 5 Super Likes per day, they both let you change your location via the Passport feature so that you can meet new people from all over the world, and they both give you access to unlimited right swipes.

So far, so good.

But how does Tinder Gold stand out compared to Tinder Plus? Does it offer any extra benefits that might make it worth your while upgrading?

What Extra Features Does Tinder Gold Have?

  • See who's liked you
  • More top picks

The most significant extra feature that Tinder Gold has, which Tinder Plus doesn't, is the ability to see who's already liked you.

On Tinder Plus, you can swipe all day long until you get a match, but you have no idea who's already liked you until you swipe right on them. You can see your number of “likes” in the top left corner of your screen, but their identities are all blurred out.

This can be a time-consuming pain. Worse still, just because someone has already liked you, that doesn't mean they'll appear in your queue of profiles. So you could swipe all day and never come across them.

Indeed, such is the nature of the Tinder algorithm that a person could “like” you, but you'll never match because they simply won't appear in your queue. It sucks!

Tinder Gold solves this problem by allowing you to see who's already liked you. All you need to do is click on the “Liked Me” tab at the top left of your screen to see the range of profiles that have swiped right for you. Then, you can click on each one to see all their photos and bio, and you can even choose whether or not to say Yes or No to them.

Another extra feature that Gold has, which Tinder Plus doesn't, is the “Top Picks” feature. Essentially, Tinder picks out 4 to 10 potential matches each day just for you. Their suggestions are based on your user behaviour on the app, and it's up to you to decide whether to chat to them or not.

Plus vs Gold: Price Difference

Tinder Plus has 3 subscription packages to choose from:

  • 1 month – $4.99
  • 6 months – $2.50 per month
  • 12 months – $1.67 per month

Likewise, Gold also has 3 subscription packages to choose from:

  • 1 month – $14.99 per month
  • 6 months – $7.50 per month
  • 12 months – $5 per month

As is evident, Gold is considerably more expensive than Plus if you subscribe for just one month. But, on the other hand, if you opt for 12 months worth, there isn't even that much difference between the two upgrades.

Is Tinder Gold Worth It?

If you're still using free version of Tinder, or if you've already got Tinder Plus, but you're thinking of upgrading to Gold, you'll be wondering if Gold is really worth it.

Tinder Gold definitely has its advantages if you live in a highly-populated town or city where high Tinder usage rates mean it's challenging for you to land matches. If you find that you often get lots of “likes” but can never seem to match with anyone, Tinder Gold is worth it. The ability to see “likes” would get your instant matches.

On the other hand, if you're already getting a fair amount of joy out of Tinder and don't necessarily need more matches, you might assume that Tinder Gold doesn't really offer any advantages over Plus. However, by giving you 4-10 curated “picks” per day, Tinder Gold can improve the quality of your matches.

Comparing Tinder Gold vs Platinum

Like Gold is an upgrade on Tinder Plus, Tinder Platinum is a further upgrade on Tinder Gold.

This means it's costlier too – but how does it measure up against Gold?

What Extra Features Does Tinder Platinum Have?

  • Send icebreakers along with your Super Like
  • Get bumped up in the queue when you “like” someone.
  • Tinder Platinum has all the same features that Plus and Gold have – plus one or two more.

One of its more exciting features is that, like Tinder Plus and Gold, Tinder Platinum nets you 5 Super Likes per day. When you Super Like someone, your Tinder profile gets bumped up in their queue, which increases your chances of getting seen – and getting matched.

However, Tinder Platinum boosts this feature by also letting you add an opening message to anyone you Super Like. The benefit here is that your chances of matching with someone you find attractive will improve immeasurably because not only do they get to see your pics and bio, but they also get to read your icebreaker.

Is this useful?

It sure is! After all, Tinder is designed in such a way that you can't ordinarily message someone until they've matched with you. The Platinum Super Likes feature allows you to bypass this rule, although you are still limited to 5 Super Likes per day.

The other extra feature that Tinder Platinum has is the “Prioritized Likes” feature. Basically, this feature seeks to solve the problem for most Tinder users: You can like someone on Tinder, but there's absolutely no guarantee you will ever match simply because they might never see your profile.

This is mainly because Tinder's popularity works against the app itself. Yes, it's fantastic that Tinder is so popular. But because it's so popular, many users hardly ever get seen. Their profiles are at the bottom of the “queue.”

Tinder Platinum solves this by prioritizing your profile each time you like someone. In other words, whenever you like someone, you will automatically be bumped up the queue so that they will likely see your profile (even if they don't actually swipe right for you. But, hey, at least you've now got a fighting chance).

Gold vs Platinum: Price Difference

As we saw earlier, Tinder Gold starts at $14.99 and offers three different subscription packages:

  • 1 month – $14.99 per month
  • 6 months – $7.50 per month
  • 12 months – $5 per month

Tinder Platinum also offers three different subscription packages:

  • 1 month – $19.99 per month
  • 6 months – $10.00 per months
  • 12 months – $6.67 per month

Because Platinum is the most feature-rich version of Tinder, it's also the most expensive – by a clear margin. Indeed, you'll be paying pretty much double the amount you'd be paying for Tinder Gold, even if you choose the yearly package.

Moreover, Tinder Platinum doesn't seem to offer a one monthly subscription package, which might put some people off.

Is Tinder Platinum Worth It?

With those prices in mind, we have to consider whether Tinder Platinum is really worth it. After all, Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold themselves have a fair amount of features, so is it worth your time to make the upgrade to Platinum?

First of all, it's heavily dependent on your budget. Because Tinder Platinum doesn't have the option of a one-month subscription package, you need to pay at least $99.99 to use it. That's quite the outlay, but we think the reason Tinder chose not to offer one month's worth of Platinum is because Platinum is aimed at serious daters.

And this is what it all comes down to: We think Tinder Platinum is worth it if you're taking online dating seriously and genuinely believe you can meet your next partner on Tinder. There's real value in the features because they make it easier to land high-quality matches suitable for you.

So, in conclusion, is Tinder Plus, Gold or Platinum the right upgrade package for you? Are any of them worth the extra money?

After testing each one out myself, here are my final thoughts:

Tinder Plus is worth it if you're taking Tinder kinda seriously, you want more matches and, while you're operating on a budget, you've got room to subscribe to an online dating app for a moderate monthly fee.

On the other hand, Tinder Gold is a perfect fit for anyone who can afford to subscribe to a more expensive package and who is tired of getting nowhere on the app. Either you're simply not getting any matches, or you're not getting any suitable matches. Tinder Gold can solve this problem by showing you who's already liked you and letting you swipe left or right on them there and then.

Tinder Premium version, meanwhile, is only recommended if you're taking Tinder very seriously. You not only want higher quality matches, but you also want to be seen by more people and to make genuine connections with the ultimate goal of actually starting a relationship with someone on this app.
