Is Tinder Plus Worth It?

Tinder is a ridiculously popular dating app, used by millions of people worldwide. It's free to use where you can seek out new friends, hookups, short-term dates, and even relationships. It's easy to sign up for, easy to use, and its success rate is pretty high.

But being free and so popular also comes with downsides.

For many, the biggest drawback is that landing matches – or, at least, suitable matches – becomes tricky. You can be swiping all evening endlessly but getting nowhere. You know you've got at least three new likes, but you can't even see them!

For some, this is where Tinder Plus comes in. It's meant to make Tinder easier to use and increase our chances of success.

But is this true? Is Tinder Plus worth it?

I upgraded to Tinder Plus myself to find out. So let's see what I learned.

What Is Tinder Plus?

The regular Tinder app is free to use. You can create an account for free, swipe left or right on other profiles for free, match with other users for free and send and receive messages for free. Indeed, many Tinder users go their whole Tinder lives without ever paying a dime to use the app, and they even manage to land a few dates off it!

Tinder Plus, though, is basically an upgrade on regular Tinder. It's not free, but it's meant to improve the whole Tinder experience by giving you access to unlimited swiping, the ability to see who's already “liked” you, and you also get a few extra perks thrown in, such as a few free boosts and daily Super Likes.

Essentially, it's designed to improve the experience for those who aren't currently getting much out of Tinder by giving you more control over who you match with.

Here's What You Get in Tinder Plus:

Tinder Plus comes with several features that make it attractive to some users. Let's take a closer look at what these are.

1. Unlimited Swiping

Ever spent a good amount of time endlessly swiping in pursuit of that one perfect match? Or maybe you swipe on everyone just to guarantee you'll at least surely get a match.

The problem with free Tinder is that you will eventually run out of swipes because Tinder sets a daily limit. If you upgrade to Tinder Plus, on the other hand, you can keep on swiping all day long without worrying you'll run out of swipes just before a really cute person pops up in your queue!

2. Five Free Super Likes Per Day

Free Tinder users get 1 Tinder Super Like per day – but Tinder Plus users get 5.

Super Likes are useful because they ensure that the person you've just liked will see you in their queue. However, when you merely “like” someone, there's a strong possibility you will never appear in their queue of potential matches (simply because of the high volume of users).

Therefore, the more Super Likes you have, the more chances you've got of landing matches.

3. Tinder Passport

The Tinder Passport feature lets you see Tinder profiles from wherever you want in the world.

This is very different from the free version of Tinder, where you can only see people in your local vicinity. With the Passport feature, you can land potential matches in Europe, America, Africa, Asia … everywhere! It's ideal if you plan to take a trip abroad soon and want to meet new people.

4. A Free Tinder Boost

The Tinder Boost makes your profile more visible for 30 minutes, thereby increasing the chances of you getting more likes – and more matches.

Tinder Plus nets you one free Tinder Boost each month. That's not a huge deal but, considering that Tinder Boosts aren't necessarily super cheap, it's a nice little additional perk.

5. Unlimited Rewinds

A really cool feature on Tinder Plus is the Unlimited Rewinds feature.

How does it work, and what are its benefits?

Well, when you're swiping on Tinder, it can be very easy to swipe too fast and regret that you just said ‘No' to someone you probably should have said ‘Yes' too. With a free Tinder account, all swipes are irreversible, which means you can't go back and swap a left swipe for a right one. With Tinder Plus, you can do just that – and you can do it as often as you want.

However, the catch is that you can only go back to one profile.

So why would you upgrade to Tinder Plus? Let's take a look at a few reasons:

You Should Upgrade to Tinder Plus If

1. You're Not Getting Any Matches

Tinder is used by millions of people worldwide, and there are very possibly thousands who use it in your local vicinity. So why is it still so damn hard to find a match?

It's down to two things: Too much traffic which in turn reduces your visibility, and the Tinder algorithm which automatically either improves your visibility or declines it, while at the same time either displaying suitable profiles in your queue or unsuitable ones.

Either way, if you're getting no matches or likes, Tinder Plus is for you.

2. You Want To Be Seen, Less

Some people get hardly any matches on Tinder.

But some people get LOTS of matches.

If you're the type of person who's getting way too many likes at the moment and many of them are completely unsuitable, you can upgrade to Tinder Plus to make your profile less visible. This will help you avoid feeling overwhelmed, and it can ensure you can focus on the more suitable matches.

3. You Want To Save Time

Let's face it, online dating doesn't have to be difficult – but it can be.

And when you're constantly swiping through profiles to see who's liked you, Tinder can start to eat into your valuable time before you've even started talking to someone.

Because Tinder Plus saves you time by letting you see who's liked you (as well as making your profile more visible), it's ideal for those who live busier lives.

4. You Can Afford It

Tinder Plus isn't free, so if you don't mind paying for a premium online dating service, it might be for you.

5. You Want Something To Happen

Some people use Tinder as a vanity project to make themselves feel better about themselves. Others use it because it's free and aren't that bothered if nothing comes of it.

If, however, you want something to happen here – maybe you want a hookup, or you want to start seriously dating again – upgrading to Tinder Plus can prove useful.

You Shouldn't Upgrade to Tinder Plus If

1. You're Not Taking Online Dating Too Seriously Anyway

The great thing about regular Tinder is that it's completely free to use, making it perfect for anyone who's relaxed about how successful they are while using it. If you believe that it'd be a bonus is something that actually came of using Tinder, but you're not too bothered if nothing develops, spending money on Tinder Plus probably isn't worth it.

2. You're Getting Lots of Matches

If you're already getting lots of matches and you're chatting to people and even going out on dates, there's not really much more Tinder Plus will be able to offer you besides, perhaps, switching your location.

3. You've Not Got The Funds

Not everyone can afford to spend X amount of money per month on a dating app. So if you've not got the budget necessary to subscribe to a dating app like Tinder Plus, it might be best if you avoid it. Yes, Tinder Plus might improve your dating life, but it's not guaranteed.

What's Tinder Plus Cost?

Tinder Plus has 3 different subscription packages available:

  • 1 month – $16
  • 6 months – $10 per month
  • 12 months – $7 per month

This means that it works out a lot cheaper if you lock yourself into a six-month or a twelve-month subscription than if you decided to just go for one month's worth.

That said, most users prefer to test the waters with a month's subscription before upgrading to either a six-month or a twelve-month subscription, depending on how useful they found it.

So, Is Tinder Plus Worth It?

The answer comes down to what you're looking for. If you're casually using Tinder to get laid, but you're also on other apps, and you're not taking online dating too seriously, Tinder Plus probably isn't worth it. On the other hand, if you take online dating seriously and genuinely want to meet someone and go on dates, Tinder Plus is an attractive option.

What's The Difference Between Tinder Plus, Tinder Gold, and Tinder Platinum?

As well to Tinder Plus, there is also Tinder Gold and Tinder Platinum. With so many packages available, which is the best one for you? They all have their pros, and in this section, I'll be analyzing each one to see which stands out above the rest.

Let's first of all start by looking at the biggest difference between Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold. Whereas Tinder Gold lets you see who's already “liked” you, Tinder Plus does not.

This is a major difference because many users upgrade their Tinder accounts to get more matches. And being able to see who's already liked you means that you can also decide whether or not to like them back straight away by clicking their profile in your “Liked Me” section. So just head into that section, and you'll be able to see every single person who's swiped right for you.

This is something you can't do on Tinder Plus, and it saves you the headache of swiping on numerous profiles before you eventually match with someone.

Now, as good as that sounds, Tinder Gold isn't Tinder Platinum – and Tinder Platinum has a feature that even Tinder Gold doesn't have.

But Tinder Platinum, meanwhile, gives you 5 Super Likes per day, and it also lets you attach an opening message to anyone you Super Like! This is a cool feature that improves the chances of you matching with someone you really like the look of because it a) ensures that the person you've Super Liked will definitely see your message, and b) it gives you the chance to flaunt your personality a little bit before they've made their mind up whether or not to swipe right for you.

This is an important thing to note because the way Tinder works mean that you can't usually send a message to someone before they've matched with you. It's kind of a major flaw with Tinder because if we could send an icebreaker to someone before we've matched with us, most people would probably agree that it would be a lot easier to persuade someone to match with us, right?

So that's where Tinder Platinum has a bit of an edge over both Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold. Tinder Platinum also prioritizes any likes you send to people. All you have to do is “like” someone, and your profile will automatically be bumped in their queue.

Tinder Gold:

  • 1 month – $25 per month
  • 6 months – $15 per month
  • 12 months – $10 per month

Tinder Platinum:

  • 3 months – $99.99 per month
  • 6 months – $149.99 per month
  • 12 months – $199.99 per month
