If you have no Tinder matches, you might ask yourself:
“Am I really that unattractive that no one swipes right when they see my profile?”
Although I don’t know what you look like or ever read your Tinder bio, I can definitely tell you that there are many other reasons you should consider, other than your looks.
As if finding love wasn’t hard enough already, I’m afraid I have to tell you that, in order to succeed, you’ll have to learn how Tinder works.
But don’t worry! I’m here to help! In this article, you’ll find everything you need to know to reach your goal:
- The main reasons you’re not getting any matches
- Tips and tricks to get more matches every day
- Technical reasons that might interfere with getting matches
Before we begin, there’s something else you need to know that might surprise you:
According to a statistic done in 2015, only 38% of all Tinder users worldwide were women. Now, depending on which gender appeals to you the most, this could be good news or bad news.
What’s more, experts tend to believe that now there are even fewer women who use Tinder, mainly because they prefer to use similar dating apps such as Bumble, Hinge, and OkCupid.
Does this mean that you should switch apps? I’m not going to lie to you… It might come to that.
Before you give up, though, try the following tips:
10 Tips to get matches on Tinder
Making changes to your profile is the first thing you should probably do if you want to turn the situation in your favor.
But before you do that, you have to figure out what’s off or unattractive about your current Tinder profile.
For example, if you only added a single Tinder photo and didn’t write anything in your bio, your chances are slim.
This doesn’t work even if you’re a really hot man or woman. Usually, a Tinder profile with no extra information and a photo of a sexy person is considered fake.
So, how can you succeed? You shouldn’t underestimate the power of a good profile. Just as with anything in life, you have to put in an effort if you want results.
Make improvements to your Tinder profile
1. Use The Right Tinder Photos
You know what they say, “A picture is worth a thousand words” and I agree. You can actually tell a story about yourself with every photo you add to your dating profile.
What people and men in particular do wrong here is that they post photos with their friends. This is a definite no-no because it will be confusing for whoever looks at your profile. Not to mention that they could like one of your friends better.
Another type of photo that you shouldn’t add is a low-quality selfie that isn’t flattering and doesn’t say anything about yourself (avoid mugshots as well).
Men should also keep their no-shirt-on photos private. I hate to break it to you, but women don’t want to see your abs (no matter how good-looking they are) without asking.
That only makes them think that the next photo you’ll send will be a d*ck pic.
Things are not very different for ladies either. Sure, you might get some matches if you put a half-naked photo of yourself on your profile, but to what end? What story does that picture say about you?
Here’s how to take or pick the most flattering Tinder photos of yourself:
- Ask a friend to take a photo of you while you do something that you like.
- Opt for pictures outside the house because natural light makes everyone look better.
- Try Golden hour photos, they are the best.
- Make sure not all your pictures look the same (try other angles and places).
- Highlight your best features and wear clothes that fit you well.
- Choose to smile in your photos, because it makes you look more inviting.
- Take many photos in various instances and pick the ones in which you look best.
Pro Tip: Avoid group photos and close-ups.
2. Write a bio and include things about yourself
When you don’t write a bio, you basically give the other person no option but to decide based on your photo(s) whether to swipe right or left.
Especially if you’re not the most good-looking guy or girl, you don’t want that. Instead, you should also give them a chance to give you a like based on the info you share about yourself.
Here’s what you should include in your bio:
- A funny line, such as “Want to always be the better-looking one? Choose me.” or “If you swipe right, you can win a free dentist consultation(in case you’re a dentist).”
- Say something about what you like or who you are, like “ I am a hiking enthusiast, the owner of a small dog, and a chocolate lover.”
- Clearly state what you’re looking for, such as a serious relationship, a hookup, dating, and so on.
- End with a “call to action”, something like a question or something that makes them feel compelled to swipe right and respond to you. Examples: “What do you like to do for fun? Let’s do that together.” or “Do you think you know the best restaurant in town? Let me take you!”
Tips and tricks to get more matches
To make sure that your updated profile is visible to other users, there are 2 tricks you should know about, namely, new accounts get a boost, and Tinder’s paid plans can get you more matches.
3. Create a new account
An even better idea than updating the Tinder profile you already have is to create a new one. In this way, you’ll start from scratch.
This means that the app will calculate and determine who your audience should be. Wait, what?
Yes, it’s true! Tinder actually has complex algorithms based on which it shows you potential matches.
A new account is going to give you a boost that will last for about a day. On this day, you’ll have access to the profiles of highly-desirable people.
If you get a few right swipes and you don’t over-swipe right, your chances to get matches will be considerably higher.
This is actually another factor that may get you a lot of matches or no matches. It’s a Tinder algorithm called “ELO score” and I’ll tell you more about it below (point #7)
4. Upgrade your Tinder subscription
In case you didn’t know, Tinder actually wants to help you out. However, their help doesn’t come for free. You’ll have to spend money if you want to enjoy benefits such as:
- If you subscribe to Tinder Gold or Tinder Premium, you’ll get 5 free Super Likes per week. This means that you can clearly show that you’re interested in someone by giving them a Super Like. Your Super Like will appear as a cool notification to him or her.
- Want to see who likes you? Both Gold and Premium subscriptions allow you to take a peek. If you like them back, that’s a match!
- Can’t remember the people you swiped right for last week? No worries if you have the Premium subscription. It shows you the likes you’ve sent in the last 7 days.
- Need a free boost? That’s also included in the Gold and Premium packages.
As you can see, your chances to get more matches can increase with the help of these features. However, they’re not mandatory. It all depends on how much you really want to succeed.
5. Try other apps similar to Tinder
Before you get completely discouraged, you should consider giving other similar apps a try. Although very popular and effective for many people, Tinder might not be for you.
If you know exactly what you’re looking for and not just looking around, then you can choose apps specially made for your purpose.
For example, eHarmony is the best option for you if you’re looking for a long-term relationship. It provides you with an in-depth signup and matching process.
What’s even more surprising, it takes pride in the fact that 75% of all online marriages start there.
If you are looking to have casual fun only, then giving the Adult Friend Finder a try could be the solution for you. It has over 60 million users, so you should be able to find someone there!
Technical reasons you get no matches on Tinder
People who don’t get matches on Tinder and inclined to say that it’s an app only suited for handsome and fit people.
However, they do this out of frustration because they can’t find another reason why no one likes them.
Unfortunately, there are technical reasons that could interfere with the match-making process offered by this app.
Let me explain:
6. Your filters could be too restrictive
This app offers you multiple options when it comes to filtering which people you see in your list.
For example, you can choose the maximum distance between you and the people you could be interested to meet. To discover more people from your area, you should increase this distance.
Especially if you live in a not-so-populated place, you can’t expect to have 100 new options every day.
The same goes for your age range limit. If you only want to see, for example, women between 21 and 23 years old that are at a maximum distance of 100 miles from you and you live in Alaska, you probably won’t find too many (or at all).
While it’s understandable you don’t want to travel just to hook up with a man or woman, it’s not this app’s fault there are no eligible singles in your area.
7. Your ELO score is bad due to over-swiping
What is the ELO score, you might ask. It’s Tinder’s secret ranking system (Tinder algorithm)!
When you first create an account, your ELO score is perfect. That’s why you get to see the profiles of highly desirable men and women, and you get the same visibility, too.
However, as time goes by and you swipe right or left on people, and they do the same for you, your personal ELO score starts to take shape.
How does it work?
For example, if you are not picky at all and you swipe right to every man or woman you see, then the app is going to show you less attractive people.
Based on its mechanics, it would be best to maintain a 30/70 ratio. In other words, swipe left 2-3 times for each time you swipe right.
Hopefully, by doing so you can keep your ELO score high, regardless of how many people swipe right for you.
So, do your best to pick the men or women you like most, not everyone!
8. You didn’t actively use the app for a while
No matches on Tinder? You close the app, don’t use it for a month, and then you try again.
Still no matches?
Well, it’s because you are an inactive user. This app won’t show your profile to active users who
use the app every day, send messages and replies, and so on.
Why not? Because they can’t give an active user high hopes knowing that you are an infrequent user. They want to show people real options.
For example, if a paid user Super Likes you and you don’t notice, they waste that Super Like on you. Tinder doesn’t want that.
While you might think that the app will definitely send you a notification if that happens, that isn’t true. If you don’t use a certain app for a long time, your phone will remove its permissions and you won’t be notified anymore.
9. Your Tinder account got shadowbanned
Be honest: Did you break any of the Tinder community guidelines? If you did, then it means that they restricted your account and that’s why you’re getting no potential matches.
In other words, you could live under the impression that you’re using the app as per usual, being able to swipe left and right.
However, while you can still do that, Tinder doesn’t show your profile to anyone, anymore. In addition to that, there’s no way back from getting shadowbanned. It lasts forever.
To make sure that’s not your case, just create a new account!
You can read our guide to confirm and remove the Tinder shadowban.
What else can I do?
10. Try to have patience and keep trying
Tinder is a dating app. It’s not a magical instrument that’s going to help you meet the right men or women, so use it accordingly.
Don’t get your hopes too high and try not to become desperate. The best thing you can do is to keep trying. Having patience is also an important factor.
After all, good things don’t happen overnight. They require effort, perseverance, and time, of course.
Takeaway
No matches on Tinder? Not anymore, if you try the suggestions above.
Start from scratch, do everything by the book, and you’ll definitely get more matches on Tinder in a short amount of time.
However, if you don’t, then don’t despair! As mentioned before, there are numerous other dating sites that you can try, depending on what type of connection you’re looking for.
No matter what you choose, stay confident in yourself! You’ll need that for when you’ll meet up with your potential matches!
